Bridging Cultures Through Kimono —The Beginning of My Journey as a Bilingual Kimono Stylist

Nice to meet you.My name is Tsuyaka Kamiya, a bilingual kimono dresser.

Based in Tokyo, I share the beauty of Japanese culture with the world through kimono.

My journey as a kimono dresser began during my time living in the United States.

After graduating from high school, I moved to the U.S. on my own to study abroad.

At first, I majored in nursing. However, as I began to ask myself,“What kind of woman do I want to become?”

I realized a growing desire to pursue a path where I could express and share beauty, and bring joy to others through it.

I then made a significant change in my path and enrolled in a beauty school in Texas.

After graduating, I worked at a local salon, gaining hands-on experience in the beauty industry.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I returned to Japan.

It was through my experience of living as a Japanese person in the United States that I came to a realization for the first time—that I had known very little about my own culture.

At the same time, I was deeply moved by the beauty of Japanese culture as seen from an outside perspective.

During that time, I found myself thinking back to the kimono worn by my grandmother and aunt—something that had always been close to me since childhood.

I came to feel that kimono is not simply clothing, but something that embodies Japanese culture and aesthetics—and something that allows women to shine in a truly special way.

The ability to express Japanese culture,to pursue a path that celebrates and empowers women, and to make use of my background in beauty—

All of these elements came together, leading me to choose the path of a kimono dresser.

In today’s world, where globalization and AI continue to advance,I believe that experiences that allow us to feel culture, and the value that only humans can create, will become even more important.

Kimono has the power to move people’s hearts.

Through this blog, I will share:

  • The beauty and charm of kimono

  • Japanese culture from a global perspective

  • Tips for enjoying kimono more freely

Connecting the world through kimono—with this intention in my heart.

Thank you, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
